Clogged Drains Got You Down? Get Help With All Your Plumbing Needs Here!

Water may be needed to live, though it can be the cause of frustration for anyone that is dealing with a plumbing issue. There are not many things more devastating to a home’s structure than a major plumbing problem. The good news is there are steps that every homeowner can take to stop plumbing nightmares from coming to life, and for fixing them before they get out of control.

You can easily fix noisy pipes. Anchor any pipes that are exposed. You might want to contact a professional when the pipes are hard to access.

Pump your septic tank every five years to keep it working well. This will keep sediment from hanging out in your tank and eventually causing there to be a backup in your home. Although it is somewhat of an expense to pump out a septic tank, it is nothing compared to what you will have to spend on cleaning up a backup of sewage or repairing or replacing your septic system.

Don’t use harsh chemicals such as toilet tablets in your toilet. While they are good at removing odors, they have a detrimental effect on the parts of the toilet that are rubber. This can make it not function correctly and may even break it.

If you encounter a problem with your garbage disposal, resist the urge to reach in and fix it with your bare hands. Garbage disposals are not healthy places for hands to be, even if they are not running. Use a guide or the Internet to locate a blueprint of your disposal, or a troubleshooting manual.

Place a strainer over the drains to collect anything that could clog and cause stoppage. Every time you have large particles in the strainer of the kitchen sink, it should be cleaned thoroughly. The ones in the bathroom can be cleaned out as needed.

Try to avoid putting things like fat, oils and grease down the sink drain. They might be in liquid form, but after they cool off, they will solidify and make a clog in your drain pipe. This is especially true if you have a garbage disposal, as the fat will cause the blades to run slower and less efficiently. Dump your oil outside or in a container that you throw out with the regular trash.

Putting a cup of any kind of baking soda followed with a cup of white vinegar each month will keep your drain running smoothly. This will cause the vigorous bubbling you may remember from the “volcano” in a grade school science project, so be sure to close the drain with a stopper. Let that sit for a while, and then run boiling hot water down it. This method should clear your pipes of accumulated hair and soap scum.

Frozen pipes can be a disaster and cause you so much money. Fortunately, it is usually relatively easy to prevent your pipes from freezing. First, make sure that your outside pipe are insulated well. When it is cold outside make sure you bring in your hoses or at least drain them. You can save a bunch on your plumbing bills this way.

Good education and preparation are the key to avoiding plumbing woes. A homeowner is likely to make good decisions and avoid plumbing disasters if he bothers to learn some things about the subject. If a problem does arise, research and preparation ahead of time will make the problem easier to fix.
